Shelby County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is committed to protecting the lives and property of our residents by coordinating comprehensive emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts across our 598-square-mile community. We oversee the Enhanced 911 Center, providing 24/7 dispatch support to fire, EMS, and law enforcement while delivering critical training and planning resources. From severe weather warnings and hazardous material incidents to large-scale disasters, our team collaborates with local volunteers, state partners, and federal agencies like Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) to ensure swift, effective action. As the local backbone of Iowa's emergency system—established under Iowa Code Chapter 29C—we focus on education, zoning, and proactive measures to minimize risks and build resilience. Whether it's supporting county-wide ambulance services, volunteer fire departments, or community outreach, we're dedicated to empowering Shelby County to recover stronger.
